Last updated: 07.07.2023 Reading time: 15 Min.

We put the newest Dyson V11 Absolute Extra “Made in UK” through the wringer for you.

Dyson - with a history of revolutionising household appliances - is pushing the envelope for what a vacuum cleaner can do.

First of all, Dyson has left no stone unturned in the development of the V11 Absolute Extra. It’s certainly the most advanced vacuum cleaner they’ve ever produced - a big step-up to the Dyson V10. No cables, no bags, sure that's nothing new to us.

But being able to vacuum longer without any cables, we think that's a great thing.

The key question for would-be buyers: is this new model worth the relatively high price?

However, the Dyson V11 Absolute Extra is not cheap. Headline pricing can be misleading. Quality and longevity matters just as much.

We tested the v11 for you. So let’s delve into the results of our extensive review. Then you can make up your own mind.

Cleaning performance on hard floors.
Cleaning performance on hard floors.

Not many vacuums can achieve this, which makes the Shark Stratos a real hot tip. 🔐

DuoClean Anti Hair Wrap Plus floorhead - perfect for all floor types

A real highlight of the Stratos cordless vacuums is the dual floorhead - two motorised brush rolls working together to tackle both hard floors and carpets.

The Anti-Hair Wrap Plus roll at the back draws out embedded dirt in carpets and deals with hair pick-up, while the front roll gets to work on hard floor dirt.

This really works flawlessly. And the highlight:

This means you don’t have to change the brush! 💃

Anti-Odour Technology

The Stratos range features anti-odour technology to deal with any nasty odours produced by pet dander and other dirt and dust. Just pop a cartridge into the dust bin and any unwanted smells are masked with a clean, fresh scent.

Perfect for those of us with more sensitive noses! 👃

Automatic suction level adjustment - Clean Sense IQ

Yes, you heard right:

The Stratos automatically adjusts its suction power according to the dirt and the floor type.

This saves battery and increases cleanliness. 💪

Speaking of saving battery power:

Despite very good runtimes, the Stratos IZ420UKT model also features an extra removable battery pack and thanks to a clever charger, you can charge two batteries at the same time.

Conclusion: Should you buy it?

So do we recommend buying a Shark Stratos cordless vacuum cleaner?

Yes, definitely!

In addition to the advantages mentioned above, Shark offers many other clever solutions.

Dyson V11 Absolute in the cleaning test - cleaning under extreme conditions?

What’s probably most interesting to you regarding the Dyson V11 Absolute is, of course, how good the cleaning and suction performance is.

We gave the new cordless vacuum cleaner quite a dirty challenge and checked how it’s dealing with it.

We spread dirt in the form of lentils, sand and oatmeal on hard floors, short-pile and long-pile carpets and then cleaned it with the automatic suction level.

The overall result was really impressive, but see for yourself:

Cleaning on Hard Floor (Laminated)

On hard floors, the V11 has no problems removing the dirt, even if a bit of sand was left behind the first time I vacuumed over it, the Dyson did its job very well. The second time I vacuumed over it, there was no sand left.

The other types of dirt the Dyson V11 has easily sucked up.

The test result of the Dyson v11 on a hard floor, with before/after pictures

We then repeated the test at maximum level. The entire sand was sucked up immediately.

Cleaning on Short Pile Carpet

The V11 literally left nothing behind on the short-pile carpet. That had never happened in any of our tests before, chapeau!

Cleaning a Long Pile Carpet

Long-pile carpets - the horror of any cordless vacuum cleaner.

Well, not so much for the Dyson V11 Absolute. It masters this task with flying colors and impresses us - once again - with its suction performance.

The result of the cleaning test of the Dyson V11

Everyday Cleaning Performance

We also tested the vacuum cleaner in our (family) everyday life. Besides the long battery life, the suction power caught our attention as well.

The Dyson v11 was able to suck out a considerable amount of dust on our long-pile carpet in the living room. And that even after we had already vacuumed the carpet with an older device from Dyson.

That was quite impressive and shows us that it really has reached a new level in cleaning performance.

Dyson V11 Absolute Extra Design review

The stylish look is a unique selling point of Dyson cordless vacuums.

Therefore, let's first take a look at the design and workmanship in our test of the new Dyson V11 Absolute Extra.

Looking at the power unit of the Dyson V11 in our test, we can see that the power unit is particularly stylish and futuristic.

The appearance of the Dyson V11 has changed little compared to the Dyson V10, unlike some other things.

And both the 2019 Dyson V11 and the 2020 Dyson V11 have broadly the same design.

A special new feature of the 2020 model, however: an easily replaceable battery. We’ll come back to that shortly.

Dyson UK has clearly channelled “never change a winning team” philosophy for the V11. They’ve kept the futuristic design. In fact, you could easily imagine Elon Musk (or one of his minions more likely!) happily vacuuming his future colony on Mars with this Dyson.

The motor of the cordless Dyson V11 is directly in the handle, which makes it easy to hold and it distributes the weight. With a finger on the trigger and the dirt bin in view, you can start vacuuming.

Compared to the V10, the Dyson V11 has a stylish and, above all, practical LCD display that shows many useful things that are monitored in real time by the cordless vacuum cleaner.

The display of the Dyson V11 - what does it show?

The new display of the Dyson V11 can show various things

The Dyson V11 permanently monitors its system and can show various things on its display.

From our point of view, the display of certain error messages is particularly useful as it lets you know exactly where to start to fix the device.

Indicators on the display of the Dyson V11
Power Settings (Boost, Med, Eco)
Low Battery Warning
Remaining Runtime (live calculation)
Video instructions for specific maintenance tasks
Blockage Reports

Surely that is a matter of taste, but we at Smart Home Fox think that the futuristic look definitely makes the vacuum count as home decor, too.

Currently, the Dyson V11 is available in the following colors (at least the tubes):

  • Copper
  • Blue
  • Fuchsia
  • Purple
  • Red
Info: Here, you can find our review about the Dyson V12 Detect Slim.

And those who are patient can also purchase special editions on Dyson's website, such as the golden Dyson V11 cordless vacuum cleaner.

How big and heavy is the Dyson V11?

The Dyson V11 clocks in at about 128 cm (50.4 inches) in height and weighs 3.05 kg (6.72 lbs). This makes it Dyson's heaviest cordless stick vacuum cleaner to date. We think it’s still fine but Dyson shouldn't make them any heavier.

The actual vacuum cleaner (without the tube) is about 36 cm long, and the dirt container has a capacity of 0.76 l.

The height of the Dyson V11 is well chosen for comfortable vacuuming

The Dyson V11 Absolute extra - delivery contents and accessories?

The prices of Dyson’s cordless vacuum cleaners vary mainly according to what’s included in the delivery. That’s often the point where people get confused.

Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered and will now take a closer look at the Dyson V11 Absolute's scope of delivery and the included accessories.

The complete accessories of the Dyson v11 Absolute at a glance

Basically, the cordless vacuum cleaner is available in two variants:

  • Dyson V11 Absolute Extra
  • Dyson V11 Animal Extra

What are the individual attachments for?

Each of the included attachments and gadgets has its own function and qualification. We paid some extra attention to these functions while testing the Dyson v11.

Both models basically come with the same accessories, but the Dyson V11 Absolute additionally has a "Quick Release Extra-hard Brush".

However, the main difference in the included accessories is that the V11 Animal Extra comes with the "direct drive electric brush" that you probably know from previous models like the Dyson V10.

But Dyson added a new extra to Dyson V11 cordless vacuum cleaner as well: the Torque-Drive roller that automatically adjusts its suction power to the surface.

Dyson V11 Torque-Drive Nickel

The Torque Drive Nickel is the main brush of the Dyson V11

The new roller automatically adjusts the suction power to the surface and is therefore suitable for all floor types.

That’s how the Dyson V11 Torque Drive helps to optimize the battery performance and you’ll have even more comfort, because you won’t have to change the roller while vacuuming anymore.

The red nylon brush of the roller goes deep into carpet fibers and cleans the carpet. The black carbon fibers help remove very fine dust from hard floors.

Combination Attachment Nozzle

The practical combination brush of the Dyson V11

This brush comes in very handy when vacuuming furniture, books or pictures.

It’s also very versatile and efficient, because you can easily pull back the brush with a simple grip and then vacuum only with the hard plastic end.

Suction Tube

The suction tube is made of thin metal and has a practical plastic plug connection. You can connect any of the included attachments to this connector.

The suction tube is mainly used for vacuuming floors with the torque drive, but you can also use it to extend your handheld vacuum cleaner. This makes it possible for you to vacuum e.g. behind cabinets or remove cobwebs from the ceiling.

Crevice Tool

With the Dyson V11's crevice nozzle, you can even get into the last corner.

This is a classic vacuum cleaner attachment that is great for cleaning gaps and clefts between car seats or the couch.

Dyson Mini Electric Brush

The mini electric brush of the Dyson v11 is particularly suitable for vacuuming upholstery.

This brush is especially helpful when you want to clean the upholstery from pet hair and dirt.

Quick Release Extra-Soft Brush

This dusting brush has very soft bristles and is very suitable for cleaning objects with sensitive surfaces.

Quick Release Extra-Hard Brush

This new brush has much harder bristles that are also further apart. With this you can scrub off coarse dirt, e.g. from tiled floors. But be careful that you don’t cause scratches with this one.

Electric Brush with Soft Roller

The soft roller of the Dyson V11 is particularly suitable for hard floors

This roller is popular from the Dyson V10 and also from older models. It works especially well when cleaning hard floors.

But now that the torque drive adjusts automatically, the good old soft roller probably won’t be of much use anymore.

Storage and Charging Station

This one’s a super handy tool for the Dyson vacuum cleaner. With this docking station, you can hang the V11 on the wall so that it’s out of your way and recharges at the same time. Some of the accessories can also be attached to it, but, unfortunately, not all of them.

Accessories Holder for the Suction Tube

With the practical holder the accessories can be attached to the suction tube and are thus more quickly at hand during vacuuming.

Of course, the matching power supply unit for charging the cordless vacuum cleaner is also included.

Dyson V11 Absolute vs. Animal: Differences and Similarities

In our Dyson V11 vs V10 tests and comparisons, it turned out that one of the main differences between the Dyson V11 Absolute and the Animal is the direct drive electric brush that comes with it.

The "direct drive electric brush" that comes with the Animal Extra works especially well for vacuuming carpeted floors.

For hard floors, on the other hand, the Absolute's new Torque Drive is better and more efficient. However, the "old" soft roller, which is also included in the scope of delivery of the Absolute, is actually best for hard floors.

The differences summarized in a table

Who should buy the V11 Absolute and who should buy the V11 Animal?

We recommend the V11 Animal for those who mainly have carpets to clean.

For all those where the surfaces that should be cleaned alternate between hard and carpeted (or rugs), the V11 Absolute is worthwhile, which comes with the new Torque-Drive system and automatically adapts to the changing surfaces.

What’s the cleaning process of the Dyson V11 Absolute?

Of course, the Dyson V11 Absolute also comes with the proven dual-tier radial cyclone system developed by Dyson, just like its predecessors.

During the process, 14 cyclones generate a centrifugal force of more than 79,000 G and transport dirt particles, pollen and bacteria into a container.

The cyclone system from Dyson

Dyson UK also achieves a big improvement in suction performance with its new V11 model thanks to the new cleaner head, the Torque-Drive floor nozzle.

The Dyson V11 Torque Drive Floor Nozzle

The ultimate main cleaning brush of the new Dyson V11 Absolute is the Torque-Drive floor nozzle. According to the manufacturer, it’s suitable for all floor types.

In our test we were able to prove that this is really the case. Either way, the Torque Drive is a real step-up.

In our Dyson V11 test, we also took a closer look at the compact version.

For cleaning cabinets, the couch or the car, the device can be converted into a powerful Dyson V11 handheld vacuum cleaner in just a few steps.

Depending on the model, different suction attachments are included in the scope of delivery.

The perfect cleaning with a combo of cordless vacuum cleaner and robot vacuum hoover

The trend is to let it work for you ?.

Extra Tip: For easy and seamless cleaning, we recommend a combination of a cordless vacuum cleaner and a robot vacuum cleaner.

The robot vacuum can clean your home at regular intervals and pick up the everyday dirt, so you barely have to do anything.

For coarse dirt and the dirt that is accumulated in hard-to-reach places, e.g. when the kids drop down everything at dinner, you don’t have to put in much effort, simply take the battery vacuum cleaner, which is ready for use within seconds.

Take a look at our test reports on the best reviewed robot vacuums when you get the chance…

Dyson V11 Absolute review: How easy is it to use?

If you are worried whether the Dyson V11 Absolute is complicated to use, we can tell you right away that it’s absolutely not!

On the contrary, our review proves that the Dyson V11 is very user-friendly and super easy to use.

Unpacking the Dyson V11

First, unpack the vacuum and charge it completely. It takes about 4.5 hours until the battery is charged.

Depending on what you want to vacuum first, you choose a suitable attachment. The assembly of the suction attachments is super easy with a simple movement.

You just have to press the red button to attach each accessory.

  • Choose for example the torque drive to vacuum your floor, or
  • Choose one of the special attachments to use the Dyson as a handheld vacuum cleaner.

All suction attachments can be attached to the suction tube so that it functions just like an extended arm. But you can also use them all directly as "hand vacuum attachments".

How is the battery runtime of the Dyson V11?

Dyson scores some extra points for the new V11 cordless vacuum with a battery runtime of over 70 minutes in Eco mode. In Auto mode (Med), the battery-powered vacuum still achieves about 55 minutes, which is still a good performance.

However, the Dyson V11 has a runtime of only 8 minutes in Boost mode. Here we can see that it’s still got some room for improvement.

The battery life of the Dyson V11

Suction Level Runtime
Eco 70 minutes
Med (Automatic) 55 minutes
Boost 8 minutes

To achieve this battery life, Dyson stuck to the trigger that you have to hold down to activate the vacuum.

Furthermore, with the Absolute you can also combine the automatic mode with the new Torque Drive. By adapting the suction power to the respective surface, the battery usage is even more optimized.

If this runtime isn't long enough for you, you can simply switch out the battery for a fresh one in the new 2020 model (Dyson V11 Absolute Extra) and vacuum for another hour.

You can simply click out the battery of the Dyson

As long as you don’t reside in a castle, the runtime should definitely be long enough ?.

Extra Tip: If you need a second battery, we would recommend the Dyson V11 Absolute Extra Pro. This one has a spare battery included.

Dyson V11 - maneuverability and mobility included?

The joint of Dyson V11

Long story short: The Dyson V11 doesn’t miss anything in terms of maneuverability and agility. It’s as good as usual!

The joint between the tube and the roller provides enormous mobility and allows a 90 degree curve without any problems.

The weight of 3.05 kg (6.7 lbs) is not a problem while vacuuming the floor, because the vacuum cleaner lies on the floor with the roller so the weight is well distributed.

To activate the battery-powered vacuum, you have to press and hold the trigger, just like with all previous models. This is often criticized, but it’s just a matter of getting used to it. It mainly serves to extend the battery's runtime.

The trigger to activate the Dyson V11

Dyson V11 Sound Check - how loud is the device really?

The volume of the V11 also varies in the different power settings. The loudest one is the Boost mode, where we measured 76 dB.

This makes the Dyson V11 one of the quietest cordless vacuum cleaners on the market, despite its powerful suction.

Dyson V11 in the volume test

Volume in the different power levels

Power Mode Volume in dB
Boost ca. 76 dB
Medium ca. 70 dB
Eco ca. 65 dB

To give you a better understanding of the volume, we have marked the results of the V11 in the following graphic.

Maintenance of the Dyson v11

Once again, Dyson UK has focused on user-friendliness. Maintaining the Dyson V11 is very simple and basically consists of the following three options:

  • The emptying and cleaning of the dirt container.
  • Cleaning the HEPA Filter and
  • Changing the battery.

The Emptying of the Dirt Container

Emptying the dirt container is very simple. All you have to do is push the lower red lever forward. Then the container pops open, the dirt will be pushed out and will fall directly into the dustbin can.

This works very well and most of the time no residues remain in the container.

But be careful, it is best to open the container outside, because the dust that is sucked up will be stirred up when emptying.

Emptying the Dyson V11 dirt bin

Cleaning the container is also pretty simple. You can remove the plexiglass container with one grip and rinse it out.

The cleaning of the dirt tank

The Cleaning of the Dyson V11 HEPA Filter

The Dyson V11 Hepa filter can be easily untwisted at the back to be removed. This should be cleaned regularly with cold water.

Attention: It must then dry for 24 hours before it can be used again.

Cleaning the Hepa filter on the Dyson V11

Changing the Battery

The battery of the Dyson should actually last as long as the vacuum cleaner itself - that's what the manufacturer promises.

If this is not the case, the battery can be easily replaced thanks to the new click-in function, as you are probably used to from a cordless drill or something like that.

These replacement batteries are available in Dyson stores or on the website in the UK.

The click-in function to change the battery easily and quickly

Is the Dyson V11 a good investment for you and whats the best price

Battery vacuum cleaner are cheaper in the long runYou can buy the Dyson V11 in different versions and prices. These only differentiate in the accessories that are included.

Lastly we tested the Dyson V11 Absolute Extra and it’s got an MSRP of 540.00 £.

The premium model Dyson V11 Absolute Extra Pro with all the bells and whistles (also includes a floor dock and a joint attachment) has an MSRP of 670.00 £.

Of course, the price is not exactly low, but it’s a fact that we haven’t tested a better cordless vacuum cleaner so far.

We were absolutely thrilled with this product and we think it's well worth the money.

Of course, it’s up to you whether you want to pay more for an exceptional performance.

Dyson V11 Absolute (Extra) Review UK: Price - Performance Ration & Conclusion

In the end of our review, the question remains: Is it a good price-performance ratio and is it worth buying a Dyson V11 cordless vacuum cleaner?

After we’ve thrown all possible challenges at the Dyson V11, we can tell you: Yes, it’s worth buying!

The Dyson V11 has reached a new level with the LCD screen compared to its predecessors of the v-series. The operation is simply more practical. In addition, the new cleaning mode, in combination with the torque drive, has really thrown us off our guards. The roller now adapts to the floor surface and we no longer have to actively change the attachment whenever the surface changes.

The suction performance was already very good in the predecessor V10 and it’s still on a top level.

The Dyson lasts 10 years and more. During this time you don’t need to buy bags, filters or batteries. Looking at it like this, the price is amortized over time.

So if you're looking for a high-quality, powerful cordless vacuum cleaner that has great mileage, is super user-friendly, and is well thought through down to the last detail, the Dyson V11 Absolute is the best vacuum cleaner on the market.

As they say: "If you buy cheap, you buy twice!” it's worth digging deeper into your pocket for a device that is used as often as a cordless vacuum cleaner.
